2019 LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD RECIPIENT ANNOUNCED

Lidia Porto

Lidia Porto is an actress best known for her role as Cartel Queenpin Amara de Escalones in Epix’ Original Series “Get Shorty”. She has also Guest Starred on shows like American Housewife, Shameless, Jack Ryan, Major Crimes and the new Spectrum Series “LA’s Finest.” She recently worked with Stranger Things’ David Harbour on a comedy special soon to be released by Netflix. Memorable film roles include “Maria” in Scary Movie 5, Horrible Bosses 2, Idiocracy and Dope, among others. She was a Houston based actress and voiceover talent for 22 years. In addition she worked with local actors both as a Board Member and Instructor at Mercury Studios, and by directing many local theatre productions in both English and Spanish. Her production work for clients in the medical center integrated dramatic story telling with health education, including an early concept “choose your own adventure” web-novela called “Sugar, Heart and Life” and an innovative attempt to use live interactive theatre to promote early testing for cancer prevention for Baylor College of Medicine. She loves working with younger children and enjoyed using the arts in her Spanish class at Hunters Creek elementary School in Spring Branch many years ago, and more recently with LA based organizations that give Public School Students the opportunity to write and create original films. She directed and co-wrote the short film, “Bonita” which her one time co-instructor, actress and producer Margarita Reyes., which is being submitted to film festivals this year. She is grateful for the nurturing support of her Gulf Coast colleagues and deeply moved by this recognition.
